Dal Dhokli
Many flavours are infused to make dal dhokli into a tempting dish.

Preparation Method

      For the Dal
    1. Add the extra spices while tempering the dal.
    2. Add boiling water and jaggery to the tempered dal. Let it simmer on a low flame. Keep aside.
      For the Dhokli
    1. Mix all the ingredients. Knead to a soft dough. Divide it into 6 portions.
    2. Roll out big but thin rotlis from each portion.
    3. With a knife, cut each rotli into square pieces. The dhoklis are added to the dal, close to serving time.
      To Proceed
    1. To the boiling dal, add the dhoklis, one at a time.
    2. Stir gently. Cover. Keep lid slightly open. Simmer till they are cooked (5-7 minutes). Stir occasionally to avoid dhoklis sticking to the pan. Serve hot.
      Additional Note
    • To make dal dhokli more tasty, keep in mind the family preferences. Add any of the optional ingredients to satisfy their taste buds. Add 1/2 cup hot water and a pinch of mixed spices if thin consistency of tuvar dal is required.

    1. tuvar dal
    2. 1 cup water (boiling)
    3. 1 teaspoon jaggery or sugar
    4. Extra Spices to Temper Tuvar Dal
    5. 3 cinnamon sticks
    6. 3 cloves
    7. 4-5 red chillies (boria)
    8. For the Dhokli
    9. 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
    10. 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
    11. 1/2 teaspoon dhana-jeera powder
    12. pinch of turmeric powder
    13. 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds (optional)
    14. 1 tablespoon oil
    15. water (to bind dough)
    16. whole wheat flour (for rolling)
    17. salt to taste
    18. Other Ingredients (Optional)
    19. 1/4 cup peanuts (roasted)
    20. 1 tomato (chopped)
    21. 6-8 pieces drumstick (boiled)
    22. 1/4 cup green peas (boiled)
    23. 12 pieces vatana ni kachori
    24. 8-10 cashew nuts
    25. 8-10 raisins
    26. 2 tablespoons lemon juice
