Fada Ki Khichdi
A variety of grains, pulses and rice provide healthy properties needed to stay fit.
    Preparation Method
  1. Separately wash the grains thoroughly. Drain and keep aside.
  2. In a pan, bring water to a boil. Add the drained grains, turmeric powder and green chillies. Mix well.
  3. On a low flame, melt ghee in a ladle. Add carom seeds, red chillies, cinnamons, peppercorns, curry leaves and asafoetida. Add tempering to the grains. Stir well.
  4. Pressure cook up to 4 whistles. Toss khichdi. Serve hot.
  5. Tastes delicious with fresh curds and methi ka masala.
    Additional Note
  • Consistency of khichdi depends on individual liking.

~ INGREDIENTS ~
  1. 1 cup broken wheat (gehun ka fada)
  2. 1/4 cup rice
  3. 1/4 cup split pigeon peas
  4. 1/4 cup split green beans without skin
  5. 1/4 cup black eyed beans (white)
  6. 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  7. 4 green chillies (slit, optional)
  8. 4 cups water
  9. salt to taste
  10. For the Tempering
  11. 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  12. 1 tablespoon carom seeds
  13. 3-4 red dried chilies (boria)
  14. 3-4 black peppercorns
  15. 3-4 cloves
  16. 2 cinnamon sticks
  17. 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
  18. 4-5 curry leaves
  19. 3 tablespoons ghee or oil
