It is a combination of two staple ingredients - cereals and lentils. They account for their protein content and nutrition needed for both young and old.
- Separately wash, both the rice and dal*. Soak for 30 minutes. Drain and keep aside.
- On a low flame, heat ghee in a pan. Add cinnamons, cloves and asafoetida. Sauté. Add the dal, turmeric and chilli powders, water and salt. Boil for 10 minutes. Add the rice. Cover and cook till the grains are tender and well cooked.
- Serve hot with melted ghee, kadhi, papad, or methi ka masala.
- *Wash oily tuvar dal in warm water before soaking.
