Chilkewali Moong Dal
A healthy and nutritious lentil, that is light in diet.
    Preparation Method
  1. Wash dal and drain the water. Keep aside.
  2. In a pan, boil 4 cups of water. Add dal. Stir occasionally. The scum may be removed (optional).
  3. Add the spices, green chillies, curry leaves, kokum and salt. Stir well. Boil for 10 minutes. Cook and simmer till the dal is tender.
  4. For tempering, heat ghee in a ladle. Add cumin seeds.
  5. As they crackle, add asafoetida. Pour the tempering to the boiling dal. Stir well. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  6. Garnish and serve hot with rotis and rice.
    Additional Note
  • Add extra water if required.
    This dal can be cooked in a pressure cooker up to 3 whistles.

~ INGREDIENTS ~
  1. 1 cup split green beans with skin
  2. 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  3. 1 teaspoon dhana-jeera powder1/2
  4. teaspoon turmeric powder
  5. 3- 4 pieces kokum (washed - soaked)
  6. 4 cups water (for dal)
  7. salt to taste
  8. For the Tempering
  9. 4 teaspoons ghee (melted)
  10. 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  11. 5 curry leaves (optional)
  12. 3 slit green chillies
  13. pinch of asafoetida
  14. coriander leaves (Optional - finely cut, to garnish)
